The Government has made changes to the regulations on Parental Leave. Previously, only parents of children born on or after 15 December 1999 qualified for 13 weeks unpaid leave. The changes extend the 13 weeks unpaid parental leave to those with children under the age of 5 on 15 December 1999 and increase the entitlement to 18 weeks for parents of disabled children. The employee must have at least one year's service. The term 'parent' includes an adoptive parent.
